Beach & Water

After the New York street paintings came a Hamptons counterpart: the beach, the surf, private pools, figures at the shoreline. Deshuk moved to Bridgehampton in 2004 and worked from a studio there for the rest of her life.

These are the paintings where her two directions meet. Some are straightforwardly observed - two girls with dogs, a boogie board, women in the surf. Others, like the mermaid studies and the figures half in the water, lean toward the symbolic work that occupied her later years.
