Park's

Park's

Alongside the downtown streets, Deshuk painted New York's parks: rowers on the Central Park lake, people crossing the park on foot, and the crowd gathered at Washington Square. The Washington Square painting is a triptych, photographed here panel by panel as well as whole.

The approach is the one she used everywhere else - photographs taken in passing, painted later - and the crowd is the real subject even when a single figure is at the center of it.
