Deshuk's later work turned from the street to the interior. Yoga and Buddhist symbolism, self-portraiture, chakras, figures seated in meditation: these paintings are the record of what she described as a spiritual path, and they look nothing like the crowds she painted downtown.

Her obituary in The East Hampton Star connects that turn to the death of her own mother, when Deshuk was seven - a loss it describes as shaping both her life and her work, and one she was painting her way through. Titles like Awakening From the Sea of Samsara and Surrender carry it plainly enough.
